Safety
Safety at Colonial Landfill
At Colonial Landfill, keeping our community and our workers safe is the most important thing we do. Safety is a priority throughout our operations, from the very base of our Landfill’s liner to the trucks we screen as they enter our gates.
How We Protect The Community
-
Built Strong: Our on-site employees have over 150 years of combined waste management experience.
-
Protects Groundwater and/or Protects Surface Water: Colonial Landfill monitors its existing waste footprint with 22 individual groundwater monitoring wells and 3 surface water monitoring points. Each of these is tested routinely for a host of chemical and physical parameters to ensure that Colonial keeps the environment clean. We contract with third party hydrogeologists, engineers, groundwater technicians, storm water technicians and the latest lab analysis techniques to verify that our groundwater and surface water are safe.
-
Protects the Air: Our onsite landfill gas technician routinely monitors the surface of the landfill and 178 gas probes for methane. This verifies that the landfill gas collection system is operating properly.
-
Exceeds Standards: Colonial Landfill is designed to meet or exceed all federal, state and local environmental and safety standards.
-
Inspected Regularly: Colonial Landfill is inspected by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
-
Overseen Continuously: We use sophisticated data management software that allows operators to monitor the gas collection system right from their smart phones. This allows our personnel to be informed about our gas infrastructure operation 24-hours a day. Our leachate storage system includes an automatic shut-off for continuous overflow protection
